Kanini Kega Declares 2027 Stance After Gachagua Church Incident in Othaya

Former Kieni Member of Parliament and current EALA MP Kanini Kega has openly declared his political position ahead of the 2027 General Election following the chaotic incident that took place at a church in Othaya, Nyeri County.

This comes after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was reportedly teargassed while attending a church service at Witima ACK Church on Sunday.

The incident, which caused panic among worshippers including children, has drawn widespread condemnation across the country.

Reacting to the events, Kanini Kega strongly condemned the alleged attack, terming it shameful and unacceptable for security forces to use teargas inside a place of worship.

In a post shared on his social media platforms, the Nyeri-born politician went further to clearly state his political direction, declaring support for the WANTAM movement, which opposes President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Shame! Shame on you! This is TOO LOW! Teargassing children and worshippers in church??? WANTAM IS INEVITABLE!” Kanini Kega wrote.

His statement has been interpreted as an open declaration of opposition against President Ruto’s 2027 ambitions, marking a significant political shift by the former Kieni MP.

Kanini Kega’s reaction comes as the Othaya church incident continues to spark heated debate on social media, with Kenyans expressing mixed reactions over the use of force in religious spaces and the growing political tensions in the country.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, political temperatures continue to rise, with leaders increasingly taking clear positions on where they stand.
