Nairobi Woman Shocked to Discover Child in Matatu Was Dead

A Nairobi woman, identified as Moh, has recounted a deeply unsettling experience while travelling in a matatu from Nairobi to Kitui County, when she realized that the child being carried by the woman sitting next to her was already deceased.

The journey began at around 6 a.m., with Moh seated beside a woman holding a young boy, neatly dressed in clothes and shoes. Initially, Moh assumed the child was sleeping. She asked the mother if he was resting, and the woman calmly replied that he was.

As the trip continued, Moh grew uneasy when she noticed the child had not moved at all. Other passengers also raised concerns as it became apparent the boy showed no signs of breathing or movement.

When Moh offered assistance, the woman declined, explaining that she was suffering from a headache. Eventually, the mother broke down in tears inside the matatu.

The driver made a brief stop at a chemist, where the woman was given painkillers, before continuing the journey. Tension and concern grew among passengers as the matatu approached Kitui Junction. At a police roadblock, officers discovered the tragic truth: the child was lifeless.

The grieving mother explained that her son had suffered an epileptic seizure the previous day at home. Despite her efforts to care for him, he passed away during the night.

Financial constraints prevented her from transporting the body separately or taking the child to a mortuary, forcing her to carry him on the matatu while returning home. She noted that the child’s grandmother had already been informed of his death.

The incident left passengers traumatized and has sparked widespread sympathy online. Many Kenyans have expressed condolences for the mother while highlighting the challenges families face when coping with loss under financial hardship.
