Fresh details have emerged following the sudden death of Form Three student Onesmus Raini, who collapsed at a secondary school in Kisii County, leaving his family and local community reeling.
Onesmus’ sister, Dorca Kemunto Raini, told Etaya TV that she had spoken to her brother just days before his passing.
On 22 January, Onesmus called Dorca requesting pocket money, explaining that he needed it to sustain himself. Dorca said this was a routine request and raised no immediate concern.
“That was the last conversation I had with my brother,” Dorca recalled, her voice breaking.
Tragically, Onesmus later collapsed while heading to class and was rushed to Kisii County Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The sudden nature of his death has left his family, classmates, and the wider community in shock.
The family learned of his death through a phone call from the school on Tuesday evening and is now awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause, as there were no reports of prior illness.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, while education and health authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s collapse. The school and county officials have not yet issued official statements.
The Raini family has appealed for support from the community as they prepare to lay Onesmus to rest, mourning the loss of a young life full of promise.
