Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has issued a strong warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following chaos that was reported at a church service in Nyeri County.
In a message shared on her Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, Wamuchomba accused Gachagua of organizing violence in churches and later shifting the blame to the government.
The MP said churches should remain peaceful places where people go to pray and seek spiritual guidance.
She strongly condemned any form of violence in places of worship, saying political leaders should not turn churches into grounds for political confrontation.
According to her, what happened in Nyeri was unacceptable and should not be repeated.
In her statement, Wamuchomba was responding to Gachagua’s earlier remarks in which he claimed that only the police have access to tear gas.
She questioned how Gachagua appeared at the church wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet if there was no expectation of chaos.
She said this raised serious concerns and suggested that the former deputy president had prior knowledge of what would happen.
Wamuchomba further alleged that the incident at Othaya church in Nyeri was planned. She claimed Gachagua was responsible for the chaos and accused him of trying to create a situation that would make the government appear violent before the public.
The MP warned that violence in churches must stop immediately. She urged political leaders to respect religious institutions and allow Kenyans to worship freely without fear or intimidation.
She concluded by calling for responsible leadership, saying using churches for political drama could divide the country and harm social unity.
