Nominated senator and lawyer Karen Nyamu has spoken candidly about her personal beliefs, explaining why she has no intention of ever getting married.
The outspoken UDA politician said that being a wife has never interested her, noting that marriage is something she has never admired or wished for. According to Karen, the idea of settling into a traditional marriage setup has never aligned with her lifestyle or personal values.
She made these remarks while reacting to a statement shared by content creator Lydia Wanjiru on social media. Lydia had openly stated that she does not want to get married because she is uncomfortable with the idea of living with a man every day of the week.
In her post, Lydia explained that while she appreciates companionship and emotional connection, she prefers a relationship where each partner maintains their own personal space and residence.
Karen Nyamu agreed with those views and openly supported Lydia’s stance. The senator reposted Lydia’s video on her Instagram stories and added that she also cannot imagine sharing a living space with a man seven days a week.
She stressed that although she enjoys love and relationships, marriage — especially one that demands constant cohabitation — is not appealing to her.
Karen also criticized societal pressure, saying people are often pushed into marriage without their personal preferences being considered.
“I relate to her completely. Society should stop making deeply personal decisions for individuals. I love being in love, but staying together every day is where I draw the line,” she wrote.
Her comments have sparked conversation online, with social media users sharing mixed reactions over modern relationships and traditional expectations.
