Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has leveled strong accusations against politicians who recently left the Democratic Change Party (DCP) and the United Opposition coalition, claiming they were never genuine members but covert operatives working on behalf of President William Ruto.
Speaking amid growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, Gachagua said the defectors’ actions were strategic, aimed at weakening the opposition from within.
“These individuals were never loyal to the United Opposition; they were planted to create disunity and sabotage our efforts,” he asserted.
The former Deputy President emphasized loyalty as a key principle in politics, warning that true members stand firm even during challenging times. He said internal sabotage is one of the biggest threats to the cohesion and effectiveness of political coalitions.
Gachagua’s statement sheds light on the intense mistrust that marks Kenyan politics, where defections are often viewed not as personal decisions, but as part of larger strategic moves.
He urged party leaders and members to remain vigilant and ensure that only committed individuals are entrusted with key roles within the coalition.
Political analysts say the accusations underline the fragile nature of alliances in Kenya, where loyalty, betrayal, and espionage are often intertwined.
The question now is whether the DCP and United Opposition can maintain unity in the face of these internal challenges, and how they will respond to allegations of infiltration.
As the 2027 elections approach, the focus remains on whether the opposition can present a united front against President Ruto, who has continued to strengthen his political machinery and consolidate support across key regions.
Gachagua concluded by vowing to expose any spies within the coalition, reinforcing the message that only loyalty and transparency will ensure the opposition’s survival and effectiveness in the coming political battles.
