Vihiga.xyz Issues Apology Over Misleading Headline on “Eugene Wamalwa” Death

Vihiga.xyz wishes to issue a sincere apology to our readers following a misleading report published on Thursday, October 23, 2025, regarding the death of “Eugene Wamalwa” during a public exercise.

Our earlier article was poorly worded by one of our writers, who mentioned the name Eugene Wamalwa without clarifying that the person who died was a university student sharing the same name as the former Cabinet Secretary.

This wording unfortunately confused our audience, leading many to believe that the former minister had passed away — which is not true.

To clarify, credible reports from People Daily Digital and Nairobi Leo confirm that the deceased was a 22-year-old student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), who collapsed and died on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, during the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise in Kabuchai Constituency, Bungoma County.

The young man was rushed to Chwele Sub-County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, and later taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Former CS Eugene Wamalwa himself later issued a statement expressing sadness over the tragic death of the young man who shared his name.

The confusion in our initial post came from the way the headline and wording were presented, not from intentional misinformation. We take full responsibility for the mistake and have since corrected the story to ensure our readers receive the right information.

Vihiga.xyz regrets any confusion or distress the previous version may have caused and assures our audience that we have reviewed our editorial procedures to prevent similar mix-ups in the future.

We value our readers’ trust and thank you for your continued support and understanding.
