IEBC Denounces Fake Gazette Notice Declaring Two UDA Candidates Winners Ahead of November By-Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned Kenyans against a fake gazette notice circulating on social media claiming that two UDA candidates had already been declared winners in the upcoming November by-elections.

According to the fake document, the two UDA candidates were allegedly unopposed in the Tembelio and Metkei ward races, and had therefore been declared duly elected ahead of the official polls set for November 27, 2025.

In an official statement, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon dismissed the claims as false and misleading, clarifying that the commission had not published any gazette notice declaring winners for any electoral position.

 “The Gazette Notice circulating online titled ‘Declaration of No Contest for Members of Tembelio and Metkei Wards in the By-Elections scheduled for 27th November 2025’ is fake,” the IEBC stated.

“We urge members of the public to ignore it and verify all official election information through our website and verified social media channels.”

The commission warned the public to remain vigilant and help curb the spread of misinformation as the country prepares for the by-elections.

IEBC reiterated that only communication released through official platforms should be trusted.

The electoral body earlier announced that by-elections will be held on November 27, 2025, for:

Baringo Senatorial seat

Six parliamentary constituencies — Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja

Campaign Period

The IEBC also confirmed that the campaign window for the by-elections runs from October 8 to November 24, 2025.

Campaign activities are allowed daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., after which any form of political mobilization will be deemed a violation of electoral laws.

“The campaign period will end 48 hours before the by-election day to maintain fairness and order,” said Chairperson Edung.

The commission assured voters that all official updates will continue to be shared promptly to maintain transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
