Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has come out strongly against Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing him of betraying a pre-election agreement they reportedly made before the 2022 General Election.
Speaking during a DAP-K party meeting, the former Defence Cabinet Secretary claimed that Governor Natembeya violated the pact they had regarding the management of party affairs and leadership structures once in power.
Wamalwa alleged that despite his instrumental role in supporting Natembeya’s gubernatorial campaign, the governor abandoned the promises they made together soon after assuming office.
“What we agreed on was mutual respect and teamwork in managing party matters. Unfortunately, that trust was broken,” Wamalwa lamented.
The DAP-K boss accused Natembeya of sidelining senior party officials and making unilateral decisions that weakened the unity they had built during the election period.
He argued that personal interests have taken precedence over the collective political vision that once united them.
Wamalwa added that the fallout has hurt the party’s cohesion in Trans Nzoia County, urging members to remain loyal to DAP-K’s core values as the leadership seeks to restore discipline and accountability.
“This is not about creating divisions,” Wamalwa clarified. “It’s about demanding fairness and ensuring that trust and integrity guide our political engagements.”
The growing rift between the two leaders exposes deeper cracks within DAP-K, a key member of the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
Political analysts suggest that the dispute could alter political alignments in the region ahead of future elections.
