Former Wajir East Member of Parliament Rashid Kassim Amin has officially defected from the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) to join President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Amin was received on Saturday, October 25, by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan at the party’s headquarters along Ngong Road, Nairobi.
Speaking during the event, Amin said his decision followed deep reflection and wide consultations with religious leaders, elders, and supporters from Wajir. He explained that he could not continue opposing a government that was “delivering tangible results” for his constituents.
“This move is not about political convenience or personal ambition. It’s about genuine commitment to development, partnership, and service to my people,” Amin stated.
He added that his main focus is to ensure the people of Wajir and the wider Northern Kenya region are fully integrated into President Ruto’s transformation agenda.
Amin’s defection comes just weeks after Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna also dumped Wiper for UDA following a meeting with President Ruto at State House, Nairobi, on October 10.
During the meeting, President Ruto praised Nguna for his “bold decision” to join his camp, saying it would help accelerate development in his constituency.
“I specifically thank Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna for joining our team to push forward the development agenda in his constituency,” Ruto said.
Nguna later urged Mwingi West residents to prepare for a series of development tours led by President Ruto, promising that “the next two weeks will be very busy.”
