A section of Mount Kenya governors was noticeably absent during the Council of Governors’ visit to Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the birthplace and final resting place of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, on Sunday.
The emotional visit to Bondo, Siaya County, came just hours after Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga sparked outrage online following a viral video where he was seen dancing and making controversial remarks about Raila’s death.
In the video, Kahiga allegedly accused the President of neglecting the Mount Kenya region while focusing on development in Nyanza and Western Kenya, claiming that “God punished Raila” — comments that have drawn widespread condemnation.
The Council of Governors’ trip was meant to condole with Raila Odinga’s family, but several top governors from the Mount Kenya region skipped the event, raising political tension and speculation about possible divisions within the leadership.

Their absence was conspicuous as other governors from across the country paid tribute to Raila Odinga, describing him as a statesman and pillar of Kenyan democracy whose contribution will never be forgotten.
The visit, led by the Council of Governors’ chairperson, was seen as a show of national unity following the former Prime Minister’s death.
However, the missing Mount Kenya leaders have left Kenyans questioning whether the region’s political class is sending a silent message amid growing political realignments.
