The Motorist Association of Kenya (MAK) has called out popular musician Bahati over a viral video that shows him engaging in what the group termed as irresponsible behavior while behind the wheel.
The footage, which has taken social media by storm, captures the artist interacting inappropriately with his wife, Diana Marua, as he drives a moving vehicle — an act that has sparked outrage and debate online.
In a strongly worded statement, MAK condemned the behavior, saying it sets a dangerous precedent for young fans and displays a “blatant disregard for road safety laws.”
“The viral video showing a musician licking his spouse’s foot while driving is a clear display of recklessness and disregard for road safety,” the association stated, urging the ODPP and NTSA to investigate the matter immediately.
According to MAK, distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of road accidents in Kenya, and public figures should act responsibly given their influence.
“Celebrities wield influence, and their actions—whether positive or negative—shape public attitudes. It’s therefore concerning when individuals in the limelight treat safety regulations lightly,” the group noted.
The incident has divided Kenyans online, with some supporting calls for Bahati’s arrest, while others argue the video was meant purely for entertainment.
As of Wednesday, Bahati had not responded to the backlash, though the video continues to trend across major social platforms, drawing criticism from road safety advocates and fans alike.
