On December 23, 2023, Amanda and her husband, Brian Rogers, were marking their 18th wedding anniversary with a peaceful walk along Alaska's North Fork Eagle River while accompanied by their dogs. During the outing, one of their dogs, Groot, accidentally fell through a weak section of the frozen river and disappeared beneath the icy water.
