The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Matthew Foster-Smith from Dorset, England, was apprehended at Quito International Airport after Colombian authorities issued an international arrest warrant through Interpol.

Investigators believe he was attempting to leave South America and travel to Europe when he was taken into custody.

According to Colombian prosecutors, the victim, identified as Natalia Villalba Angarita, was allegedly attacked inside an apartment where she had been staying in Bogotá.

Authorities claim the suspect assaulted the woman, causing her death, before allegedly placing her body inside a suitcase in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.

Investigators further allege that the suspect tampered with the crime scene before fleeing Colombia. Her body was later discovered by a cleaner inside the apartment's bathroom, where the suitcase had reportedly been left beneath a running shower.

Before his arrest, Foster-Smith denied any involvement in the woman's death. Speaking to the media, he insisted he was elsewhere at the time of the incident, claiming he had been watching a football match in a local Irish pub.

He also said he left Colombia after allegedly receiving death threats from local criminals.
Colombian officials have announced that they are working with authorities in Ecuador, Interpol, and British law enforcement to complete the legal process required to return the suspect to Colombia.

Once extradited, he is expected to face charges related to the alleged murder and the concealment of evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to gather additional evidence as legal proceedings move forward. The suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
