There was drama in Nairobi CBD after angry residents attacked a county askari, commonly known as a Kanjo officer, who was accused of assaulting a woman and her child. The woman and her kid were reportedly selling groundnuts by the roadside when the incident happened, attracting the attention of people nearby. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
According to witnesses, the officer approached the woman and accused her of selling groundnuts in an undesignated area.
He allegedly demanded a bribe of Ksh 100 to allow her to continue with her small business. The situation quickly became tense as the woman tried to explain her condition.
The mother pleaded with the officer, saying she had not made any sales and did not have the money he was asking for. She requested him to come back later after she had sold some of her groundnuts so she could give him the amount.
However, instead of understanding her situation, the officer reportedly became aggressive and started acting violently towards both the woman and her child.
This angered residents who were around the scene. They quickly intervened and, out of frustration, turned against the officer. The crowd was seen chasing and beating him as he tried to run for his safety, creating a chaotic scene in the busy Nairobi streets.
As the video of the incident continues to circulate on social media, many Kenyans have expressed mixed reactions. Some condemned the officer’s alleged actions, while others also raised concerns about mob justice and called for proper investigations into the matter.
