In her statement, the woman identified as Mercy Wanjiru explained that the neighbor, whom she trusted, used to invite her to his house to watch television, especially during news hours. She said that at first, everything appeared normal, and she did not suspect any wrongdoing.
However, Mercy alleged that over time, the situation changed, and the man began taking advantage of her during these visits. She said she felt confused and afraid, and initially did not know how to respond or stop the situation.
She further stated that this continued for several days before she eventually decided to stop visiting the neighbor’s house. Mercy later moved to Nairobi County, where she hoped to find a job and start a new chapter in her life away from the experience.
In her message to other Kenyan women, Mercy urged them to be cautious about people they trust, especially in their neighborhoods. She advised against accepting repeated private invitations that may put them in vulnerable situations.
