A heartbreaking story has shocked many Kenyans after a 14-year-old Grade 8 pupil from Kitui, now living in Dandora, publicly pleaded with his mother to stop having more children.
The boy, Tito, spoke out in pain, saying the family is struggling too much and cannot cope with the growing number of children. Tito has been out of school since January. Instead of learning like other children, he has been forced to take up adult responsibilities at a very young age.
He wakes up daily to hustle in the streets, selling water, plastics, and small household items just to help feed his family.
Life at home is very difficult. His mother is often absent and unwell, and there is no support from the children’s fathers.
Tito says sometimes they survive on just boiled water with salt, and on many nights they sleep on the floor without a mattress or blanket.
The situation has worsened because his mother continues to get children with different partners, leaving Tito overwhelmed with responsibility.
Feeling tired and helpless, he made an emotional appeal to her, asking her to stop having more children so they can focus on survival.
Despite the hardships, Tito still holds on to hope. He dreams of going back to school one day and changing his family’s future.
After his story went viral in April 2026, kind-hearted Kenyans stepped in to help. Among them is gospel artist Gladys Kanyaa, who offered support including rent, food, and basic needs to help the struggling family.
The story has since sparked widespread debate online about poverty, responsibility, and child welfare.
