In Githurai on Saturday, a dramatic scene that turned violent and deadly unfolded involving a man and a matatu conductor.
According to reports, the man identified as Clifford and his wife were standing by the roadside when a matatu heading to Nairobi CBD stopped near them. The couple boarded the vehicle, with the woman entering first.
However, while the lady was stepping into the matatu, the conductor allegedly behaved in an inappropriate manner and touched her in a way that sparked immediate tension between him and her husband.
The situation quickly escalated when the husband reportedly became angry over what had happened. Witnesses say he later took out a panga he was carrying and attacked the conductor inside the vehicle in a shocking turn of events.
The conductor sustained serious injuries and was left heavily bleeding. His hand and leg were reportedly chopped during the attack, causing panic among passengers and people at the scene.
Police officers later arrived at the location and arrested the suspect. The injured conductor was rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention.
Following the incident, matatu operators have been urged to exercise professionalism and avoid any form of inappropriate contact with passengers, warning that such actions can lead to dangerous confrontations and serious consequences.
