A man identified as Victor from Kitale is currently serving a life sentence over a defilement case he claims he did not commit. The story has left many people talking, with some expressing sympathy and others calling for a deeper look into the matter.
According to reports shared on social media, Victor had moved from his home area to Nairobi in search of a better life. Like many young men, he hoped to find a job and improve his situation. He later rented a small house in Kibra, unaware of the events that would soon change his life.
One day, due to the heat inside his house, Victor decided to sit outside to get some fresh air. While seated there, his neighbor’s young child came near him and needed some help.
Victor says he tried to assist the child in a harmless and innocent way.
However, moments later, the child’s mother arrived and began screaming, accusing Victor of defiling her child. Her loud cries quickly attracted other neighbors, and within a short time, a crowd had gathered around them.
Without listening to Victor’s explanation, some members of the public became angry and attacked him. The situation turned chaotic as emotions ran high. Police officers were later called to the scene, and upon arrival, they arrested Victor and took him into custody.
In court, Victor was charged with defilement. Despite defending himself and maintaining that he was innocent, the court found him guilty based on the evidence presented.
The judge later sentenced him to life imprisonment, which is equivalent to 90 years, without the option of a fine or bail.
The case has continued to raise questions among some Kenyans online, with many calling for fairness and proper investigation in such serious matters.
