There was drama in Bungoma County after a mother was seen beating her child publicly on the road. According to people who were present, the woman said she was disciplining the child for embarrassing her and her husband.
The incident attracted a crowd, with many stopping to watch as the situation unfolded.
In a statement she reportedly made to the crowd, the mother explained why she was angry. She said the child had crossed the line and done something that brought her great shame.
The people who gathered tried to understand what had happened as the woman continued to express her frustration.
The mother further claimed that the child had taken her phone without permission. She said the child then shared photos and videos from her phone to a church WhatsApp group.
According to her, some of the shared content was private and not suitable to be seen by other people, especially members of the church.
She also added that she had warned the child many times not to open the Telegram app on her phone. She said that was where she kept her private things, but the child did not listen to her warnings.
The mother expressed worry and fear, saying she did not know how she would face other church members, especially on Sunday.
However, some of the people who witnessed the incident asked the mother to stop beating the child. They told her that violence was not the right way to handle the situation.
Others said she should also take responsibility for keeping such private content on her phone.
The incident has now raised concerns among parents, with many being advised to protect their privacy and also guide their children in the right way without using violence.
