On Friday, it was a major political setback for President William Ruto after a once-close ally publicly announced that he will no longer support him ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The legislator declared that he has shifted his political stance and will now back opposition efforts aimed at unseating the President in the next election.
He stated that he is among leaders determined to ensure that President Ruto serves only one term, arguing that Kenyans deserve better leadership.
Ndindi Nyoro, the Kiharu Member of Parliament who supported Ruto during the 2022 elections, confirmed in a statement that he will not back the President in 2027.
He further accused the Head of State of failing to address the challenges facing ordinary citizens, saying many campaign promises remain unfulfilled.
Nyoro also claimed that the 2022 victory was influenced by what he described as weak political messaging, which has since been exposed by current realities.
He added that he will now work closely with opposition leaders to push for a change of government in 2027.
According to him, the goal is to unite with like-minded political figures to deliver leadership that is more responsive to the needs of Kenyans.
Despite his remarks, leaders within the ruling coalition continue to defend President Ruto and maintain that he still enjoys strong support across the country.
Among them is Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, who has remained vocal in rallying support for the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
The development highlights growing divisions within the political landscape as the country edges closer to the next general election.
