Justin Muturi Denies Claims He Lied on IEBC Audit Call as Voter Registration Debate Sparks Heated Political Reactions

Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has denied allegations that he lied about calling for an audit of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), after reports emerged regarding changes to voter registration requirements.

According to reports, the IEBC has announced that voters registered before 2012 must register afresh. The commission cited the need to update the electoral roll and ensure accurate biometric data for the upcoming election.

IEBC Chairperson Mr. Ethekon stated that the current voter register mainly contains names from post-2012 registrations, where biometric data was captured. He explained that this gap has necessitated a fresh registration exercise for earlier voters.

This move means that voters from the pre-2012 list will be required to undergo new registration in order to update their details and secure inclusion in the updated electoral roll.

The announcement has sparked heated political debate, with Jubilee Party’s Pauline Njoroge and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina opposing the proposal.

“This is a recipe for disaster,” Njoroge reportedly stated on social media, warning against possible voter confusion and exclusion.

Other leaders, however, have supported the IEBC move, arguing that it is necessary to strengthen election integrity and ensure a credible voter register.

As Kenyans continue to weigh in, the debate highlights growing political tensions over electoral preparedness and transparency.

With politicians on high alert, the nation now waits to see how the IEBC will implement the directive and how it may impact future elections.
