Gachagua Sets Stage for High-Stakes Political Rally in Kikuyu as Tensions Rise in Central Kenya

The political atmosphere in Central Kenya has intensified after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced a major public rally in Kikuyu Constituency.

The move is being viewed as a direct political challenge to National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, who is the area Member of Parliament.

Gachagua’s decision to take his “liberation” message to Ichung’wa’s political base signals a deepening power struggle in the region, setting the stage for a high-profile showdown this weekend.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, Gachagua met leaders from the DCP party who extended an invitation for the event scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The rally will be held at Kikuyu Township starting at 1:00 PM. Gachagua also revealed that he has invited top leadership of the United Alternative Government to attend the event.

The announcement was accompanied by strong political remarks. Gachagua claimed he had been warned about possible violence, alleging that Kimani Ichung’wa had threatened to disrupt DCP meetings within the constituency.

He further alleged that the MP had influenced local police officers to intimidate his supporters, claims that have not been independently verified.

“I have assured them that Kikuyu constituency is part of the Republic of Kenya,” Gachagua stated, insisting that the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful assembly.

He also said that DCP leadership had put security measures in place to protect attendees from any possible disruption.

The rally is expected to be a key test of political strength in the region, with attention now turning to how local authorities and security agencies will manage the gathering as tensions continue to rise in Central Kenya.
