A veteran politician from the Kamba community has officially announced his retirement from active politics, saying he will not vie for any elective seat in the 2027 General Election.
According to a media report, the former leader made the announcement on Sunday, surprising many political supporters and observers who have closely followed his long career in Kenyan politics.
He stated that after careful reflection, he had decided to step aside and allow new leaders to emerge as the country prepares for the next general election.
The politician had earlier shown interest in contesting the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2027, with many residents expecting him to be a strong contender in the race. His sudden withdrawal from the race has therefore left many supporters shocked.
Some of his followers had already begun mobilizing support in anticipation of his candidature, making the retirement announcement even more unexpected.
The former Kitui Senator, identified as David Musila, also declared that he intends to rally the Kamba community to support President William Ruto, arguing that aligning with the national government would help the region secure more development opportunities.
He said cooperation with the government of the day is key to attracting development projects such as roads, schools, and water services.
“If we support the government, our people will benefit in many ways,” he said.
Musila further accused Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of allegedly discouraging the Kamba community from supporting President Ruto, terming such advice as misleading.
He argued that the community should always remain close to the central government regardless of who is in power in order to ensure their concerns are addressed.
“Our community must always be in government so that our voices can be heard and our issues addressed,” he stated.
He urged leaders to prioritize the interests of citizens above personal or party politics as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
