A passenger aircraft operating on the Mandera–Nairobi route has been involved in an accident after it reportedly overshot the runway and ended up in a nearby thicket at the Mandera Airstrip.
Reports indicate that the Embraer aircraft operated by EBB Air, registered as 5Y-EBB, experienced a runway excursion during landing, causing it to veer off the airstrip before coming to rest in a bushy area close to the runway.
The incident caused tension at the airstrip, prompting a quick response from emergency teams who rushed to secure the scene and assist those on board.
Authorities have confirmed that all passengers and crew members survived the incident safely. Among the passengers was Mathwe Sajane, a politician from Kilifi County who is reportedly preparing to contest for a major political seat in the 2027 elections.
Rescue and aviation response teams have since taken control of the situation, ensuring all occupants are accounted for and safe. Initial reports suggest the aircraft sustained damage after leaving the runway, but no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported.
Investigations are expected to be launched to establish the cause of the runway excursion, with attention likely to focus on landing conditions, weather, and possible technical issues.
More updates are expected as authorities continue assessing the incident at Mandera Airstrip.
