Winnie Odinga has attended a key Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) delegates meeting in Nairobi linked to the faction led by Oburu Oginga. Her presence has ignited fresh discussion about her stance amid the ongoing party disagreements.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, March 17, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi. Delegates from all seventeen Nairobi constituencies attended the strategy session ahead of the party’s Special National Delegates Conference scheduled for March 27.
During the gathering, Nairobi ODM chairman George Aladwa introduced Winnie to the delegates, praising her leadership potential and describing her as an important figure in the party’s future direction.
The session primarily focused on fostering unity within ODM, with discussions on mobilisation strategies and preparations for the upcoming political season.
Winnie’s appearance attracted attention due to her recent association with another party faction led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. Earlier this month, she was seen at events alongside Sifuna and other leaders critical of certain party decisions.
She was also present with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at gatherings where party cooperation with the government was challenged.
These past appearances have raised questions about whether Winnie is repositioning herself politically. Some observers suggest she may be aiming to bridge the gap between the rival factions, while others believe she could be positioning herself as a unifying figure in the party once led by her father, Raila Odinga.
Political tensions within ODM have intensified in recent months, with factions planning separate meetings and accusing each other of betrayal.
With the major party conference approaching, Winnie’s move has added further intrigue, leaving political watchers keen to see whether she will fully align with one side or maintain a middle path.
