A video of Eugene Wamalwa introducing his wife, Lucy Wamalwa, at a public event has resurfaced shortly after President William Ruto mocked the DAP-K leader for allegedly having no wife or children.
During the second day of his five-day tour of Western Kenya on March 17, 2026, Ruto claimed Wamalwa was unmarried. The resurfaced clip, recorded in February 2023, shows Wamalwa formally taking over leadership of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya from Wafula Wamunyinyi, with Lucy present at the event.
In the video, Wamalwa introduced his wife to party members amid cheers, saying she would serve as the First Lady if he were elected as Kenya’s sixth president. He handed her the microphone for a brief greeting to the crowd.
"I am very happy to be here with my wife. Some people thought I didn’t have a wife. If I am elected as the sixth president of the Republic of Kenya, this is who will be the First Lady, and I want you to get used to her early," Wamalwa said.
The clip highlights Wamalwa’s public acknowledgment of his family while also responding, indirectly, to political jibes about his personal life.
Lucy Wamalwa, who had mostly remained out of the public eye, was warmly received by party members during the introduction.
The video has since circulated widely on social media, reigniting discussion about political rivalries and the role of personal narratives in Kenya’s 2027 election campaigns.
