On Tuesday evening, church leaders spoke out, saying Kenyans need better leadership as the 2027 general election approaches. They expressed concern that the political scene has taken a dangerous turn, with leaders accused of serious crimes gaining popularity.
In a statement, church leaders from the Western region accused some key opposition figures of being involved in the murder of Kenyans. They argued that such leaders should not be allowed to run for the presidency, insisting that citizens deserve honest and safe leadership.
The leaders reportedly shared a list of opposition figures whom they believe the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should permanently bar from presidential contests.
Among those named were former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. According to the church leaders, both carry a “bad record” and should not be given the opportunity to contest for the nation’s highest office.
The church leaders went on to claim that the only true leader without a record of murder in Kenyan history is President William Ruto.
Their statement has sparked heated debate on social media, with Kenyans sharing mixed reactions about leadership, justice, and the upcoming elections.
