The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has stepped up its political attacks on the opposition after its Secretary General alleged that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is the main financier behind efforts to unite opposition leaders.
Speaking at a public event in Kakamega on Saturday, the UDA official claimed that Kenyatta is working behind the scenes to influence the outcome of the 2027 General Election.
He alleged that the former Head of State is backing a coalition of opposition figures with the aim of regaining political control through his allies.
According to the Secretary General, Kenyatta’s involvement is driven by a desire to restore his family’s political influence by supporting leaders loyal to him.
However, he insisted that such efforts would not succeed, maintaining that UDA remains focused on securing a second term for President William Ruto.
“We are aware of the schemes being orchestrated to destabilise the government and mislead Kenyans,” the SG said. “But we want to assure our supporters that we will not allow a return to the past. We will fight politically and democratically to ensure President Ruto continues to serve this country.”
The remarks come at a time of increasing political activity, with opposition leaders working to form a united front ahead of the next election cycle.
Analysts warn that such claims could escalate tensions as both sides begin early positioning for the 2027 race.
Efforts to get a response from allies of Kenyatta were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
The accusations signal what could be the start of an intense political battle, as both the ruling party and opposition camps sharpen their strategies in the race to State House.
