Six Convicted in Robbery With Violence Case Linked to George Muchai Murder

A Milimani court has convicted six suspects in a robbery with violence case linked to the 2015 killing of former Kabete MP George Muchai.

Delivering the judgment, Milimani Trial Magistrate Lukas Onyina ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence connecting the accused persons to several violent robbery incidents, including the attack in which the former legislator was killed.

Court Finds Evidence Sufficient

The court found the first, second, third, and fourth accused persons guilty on multiple counts of robbery with violence.

According to Magistrate Onyina, the prosecution successfully proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt based on witness testimonies and other evidence presented during the trial.

The court heard that one of the accused persons was identified as the man carrying a large firearm during the robbery incidents.

Witnesses consistently testified that the attacks were carried out by four men who were unknown to the victims before the robberies.

Additional Convictions

The magistrate also convicted several of the accused persons on additional charges connected to other robbery incidents related to the case.

However, one suspect was acquitted after the court ruled that the prosecution had failed to provide enough evidence linking him to the crimes.

According to the judgment, witnesses did not place the suspect at the scene, and the court noted that none of the victims reported seeing a woman among the attackers during the robberies.

Background of the Case

The case stems from a 2015 attack in Nairobi in which George Muchai, who was then the Kabete Member of Parliament, was fatally shot alongside members of his security team during a robbery incident.

The court stated that while identification evidence formed part of the prosecution’s case, there was also additional supporting evidence linking several of the accused persons to the crimes.

Sentencing to Follow

The court indicated that sentencing for the convicted suspects will be scheduled at a later date.
