DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has publicly expressed support for the Linda Mwananchi movement spearheaded by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, signalling growing cooperation among leaders within the opposition.
Speaking during a conversation with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, the former Deputy President encouraged leaders behind the initiative to continue mobilising supporters across the country.
Support for the Movement
Gachagua said his party would continue its political activities within the United Opposition framework, while the Linda Mwananchi movement focuses on grassroots mobilisation.
“I want you people to push Linda Mwananchi from your end as we also push from our end,” Gachagua said.
His remarks suggest a possible alignment between the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and leaders involved in the movement as political activity begins to intensify ahead of future elections.
Launch of Online Platform
The comments came shortly after Senator Edwin Sifuna launched the Linda Mwananchi movement’s online platform on March 13, encouraging supporters to register and connect with the initiative through its website and social media pages.
Sifuna said the platform will help organise supporters and strengthen coordination across the country.
Push for Support Base
Last month, the senator also called for a Linda Mwananchi census, saying the initiative must establish a clear support base before expanding its mobilisation efforts.
According to Sifuna, the movement has received strong responses from supporters during public rallies, including events held in Kakamega.
However, he stressed that success will depend on proper planning, clear numbers, and strong grassroots structures capable of coordinating supporters nationwide.
The developments highlight ongoing political realignments within the opposition, as leaders explore new strategies to strengthen their influence in national politics.
