A faction within the Orange Democratic Movement aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement has announced plans to hold a rally at Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday, March 8.
The gathering is expected to counter a separate meeting organised by leaders allied to Oburu Odinga regarding the implementation of the 10-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year between opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.
The Linda Mwananchi faction, led by Edwin Sifuna and James Orengo, has urged supporters to attend the rally in large numbers. The leaders say they will present what they describe as a parallel report on the implementation of the MoU.
According to the two leaders, the report will capture views from various stakeholders regarding the progress and impact of the agreement.
The Sifuna-led camp has been pushing for ODM to cut ties with President Ruto’s administration, arguing that the pact has not served the interests of ordinary Kenyans.
However, the faction allied to Oburu Odinga wants the agreement extended, insisting that it still provides an important framework for addressing national challenges.
Earlier this week, leaders in Oburu’s camp dismissed concerns about the expiry of the 10-point agenda committee’s timeline, maintaining that the implementation process remains ongoing.
Meanwhile, Gladys Wanga, the ODM Chairperson, revealed that the party and the United Democratic Alliance will convene a joint Parliamentary Group meeting next week to review the progress made in implementing the agenda agreed upon last year.
