Schools in Emurua Dikirr to Close Ahead of UDA Primaries

Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has announced that all learning institutions in Emurua Dikirr will be closed on Friday, March 27, to allow for the smooth conduct of upcoming political activities.

The temporary closure is meant to pave the way for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries ahead of the parliamentary by-election scheduled for May 14.

Security Concerns Behind Decision

In a notice shared via his official Facebook page, Bitok said the move followed consultations with local security committees to ensure the safety of learners, teachers, and the general public.

“Following a security assessment, it has been determined that schools in the Emurua Dikirr region will be non-operational this Friday to facilitate the smooth conduct of the UDA nomination exercises,” the statement read.

Schools to Serve as Polling Centres

The government noted that the decision is a common precaution, as schools are often used as polling stations and meeting venues during elections and party primaries.

Closing the institutions helps:
Prevent disruption of learning
Enhance security during voting
Provide space for delegates and voters

Parents Advised to Prepare

Parents and guardians have been urged to make arrangements to pick up their children by Thursday evening. Learning is expected to resume on Monday, March 30, unless further communication is issued.

High Stakes Political Exercise

The UDA primaries are expected to attract significant attention as they will determine the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election in the constituency.

With political activity intensifying in the region, authorities have assured residents that adequate security measures will be put in place to maintain order during the exercise.
