Samson Cherargei Accuses Governor Stephen Sang of Mismanagement and Questionable Spending of KSh 448.7 Million

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has strongly criticized Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, accusing him of mismanaging county resources and prioritizing non-essential spending over key public services.

Cherargei alleged that Governor Sang allocated about KSh 448.7 million for office operations and entertainment-related expenses, describing the expenditure as unacceptable and unfair to residents of Nandi County.

He said such spending is unjustifiable at a time when many residents are facing serious challenges in accessing basic services.

According to him, critical sectors such as healthcare and infrastructure are struggling due to lack of adequate funding.

The senator pointed to shortages of medicine in public hospitals, poor feeder road conditions, and what he termed as poor human resource management within the county government.

He also raised concerns over delays in bursary allocations and overall slow development in the region.

“This is unacceptable. Residents are struggling, yet millions are being directed toward non-essential expenditures,” Cherargei stated, calling for stronger accountability and responsible use of public funds.

He further suggested that some county leaders may be resisting oversight from the Senate, which is constitutionally mandated to monitor the use of devolved resources.

His remarks have triggered public debate, with some residents and observers demanding greater transparency and a clear breakdown of county spending.

Others have called on the Senate to intensify its oversight role to ensure public funds are used effectively for development.

As the controversy grows, attention is now shifting to Governor Stephen Sang, who is expected to respond to the allegations.

The dispute is likely to fuel further discussions on accountability and governance in Nandi County.
