Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho following his remarks urging residents of Nakuru to avoid what he described as divisive politics.
According to reports, Joho made the comments during an event attended by Susan Kihika, where he called on residents to support the administration of William Ruto as well as the county leadership.
During the event, Joho reportedly advised residents to be cautious about leaders he accused of promoting tribal politics.
He urged them to back leaders who are part of the current government, arguing that supporting those outside government may not benefit the region.
However, speaking on March 15, Gachagua responded strongly to the remarks. He said the Cabinet Secretary does not have the moral authority to tell residents of the Mt Kenya region how they should conduct their politics.
The former deputy president also accused Joho of attempting to position himself politically ahead of the next general election.
According to Gachagua, if President Ruto were to select Joho as his running mate in the future, voters from the Mt Kenya region would easily reject the leadership.
The exchange highlights the growing political tension among leaders as discussions around the next general election continue to intensify across the country.
