Communications strategist and blogger Pauline Njoroge has reacted to reports alleging that William Ruto is influencing leadership changes at The Nairobi Hospital.
The controversy follows fresh claims that the president is exerting pressure to overhaul the hospital’s leadership, a move that has sparked intense debate across Kenyan media, political circles, and social media platforms.
A report aired by Citizen TV on March 15, 2026, highlighted allegations of high-level interference in the hospital’s management. According to sources cited in the report, the president’s name was allegedly mentioned during meetings held at Harambee House.
Reports indicate that on March 9, 2026, the hospital’s board chairman, Barcley Onyambu, was reportedly summoned to Harambee House and asked to create three vacancies on the hospital’s board, with specific names allegedly proposed as replacements.
Officials associated with the Office of the Head of Public Service, led by Felix Koskei, were said to have communicated that the leadership changes were expected within a short period.
According to the report, one official reportedly argued that although Nairobi Hospital is privately run, it holds a “public character.”
Insiders further alleged that the changes could shift control of the hospital’s 14-member board. The hospital is currently operated by the Kenya Hospital Association as a non-profit company limited by guarantee.
Earlier developments were also cited, including a February 6 memo from company secretary Gilbert Nyamweya announcing the co-option of Sylvester Okumu Kasuku and Moses Agoi Ondaba to the board.
The situation has reportedly created tension among board members, with some sources claiming they fear possible arrests linked to allegations involving financial transactions related to 34 vehicles.
Recent reports also mention the detention of several individuals connected to the hospital’s leadership, including vice chairman Samson Kinyanjui and veteran obstetrician Job Obwaka, which has raised further questions about the leadership dispute.
The developments have drawn criticism from several political figures. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently addressed the issue during a church service, accusing the government of attempting to take control of private institutions.
Meanwhile, Justin Muturi has also alleged that pressure has been applied to the hospital’s leadership over the past year.
The issue has also attracted attention from the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU). Its Secretary General, Davji Bhimji Atellah, condemned the arrest of Dr. Obwaka, saying the medical community stands together in defending its members.
As of the evening of March 15, 2026, no official statement had been issued by the presidency or Harambee House responding to the allegations.
The matter continues to generate significant public discussion online, with many Kenyans questioning the extent of government involvement in the affairs of a private medical institution.
