More than 90 staff members linked to the office of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have reportedly been dismissed as leadership changes take shape within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Reports indicate that the workers, who had been operating from different regions across the country, were relieved of their duties after Oburu Odinga took over the management of a new party office.
Oburu Speaks on ODM’s Political Direction
While addressing the current political situation, Oburu said the party intends to remain in the broad-based government rather than return to the opposition.
According to him, many ODM supporters have expressed their desire for the party to continue working within the government instead of going back to the opposition benches.
“The supporters of ODM have told us they do not want to go back to the opposition. We cannot leave the government and return to the opposition without a clear plan,” Oburu said.
He also questioned why some political figures were aligning themselves with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stating that such moves may not offer a clear political direction.
Sifuna Vows to Remain in ODM
At the same time, Edwin Sifuna, the Senator for Nairobi, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party.
Speaking about the ongoing developments within ODM, Sifuna said he has no plans to leave the party, insisting that it belongs to all Kenyans.
He also warned that he would not allow what he described as rogue individuals to take control of the party.
The developments come amid shifting political alliances as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, with internal changes continuing to shape the direction of major political movements in the country.
