Muturi Praises Court-Ordered Vote Recount in Mbeere North By-Election

Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has lauded a recent High Court ruling on the Mbeere North by-election, describing it as a major step toward strengthening transparency and accountability in Kenya’s electoral system.

The ruling, delivered by Justice R. Mwongo, ordered a scrutiny and recount of votes following a petition filed by Newton Kariuki Ndwiga against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and other respondents.

In a public statement, Muturi said the decision upholds the principles of truth and reflects the will of the people.

He noted that the move allows for a detailed review of the electoral process, including access to important KIEMS data, ensuring that the exercise remains open and verifiable.

He added that such steps are key in restoring public confidence in elections, emphasizing that results must clearly represent the voice of voters.

Muturi further stressed that electoral bodies must always remain accountable, insisting that transparency should never be compromised if Kenya is to maintain credible democratic processes. He described the ruling as a landmark moment for electoral justice.

Political observers have also termed the decision significant, noting that it reinforces the judiciary’s role in safeguarding electoral integrity. By allowing a recount and detailed scrutiny, the court has set an important precedent for resolving future election disputes fairly.

Muturi concluded by urging all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, to respect the judicial process and support efforts aimed at ensuring free and fair elections.
