Lawyer George Morara Dismisses Claims That Governor Simba Arati Has Abandoned Fred Matiang’i

Political lawyer George Morara has strongly dismissed claims that Simba Arati, the Governor of Kisii County, is hesitant or unwilling to support the political ambitions of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Speaking amid rising speculation within the county, Morara described the claims as misleading and politically motivated.

According to him, reports suggesting that Governor Arati has been distancing himself from Matiang’i are inaccurate and intended to cause confusion within the region’s political landscape.

The lawyer maintained that Governor Arati remains firmly aligned with Matiang’i and continues to support his national political aspirations.

He dismissed assertions that the governor has softened his position or shifted allegiance toward the government led by William Ruto, stating that such narratives lack factual basis.

The debate highlights the growing political significance of Kisii County in national politics. With a sizeable voting population, the region plays a critical role in shaping broader electoral dynamics. Any perception of division among its top leaders often draws attention from both government and opposition camps.

In recent months, Kisii has witnessed increased political activity, with various factions seeking to consolidate influence ahead of future national contests. Allegations that a key regional leader could be collaborating with rival political interests have intensified public scrutiny.

However, Morara rejected the claims categorically, urging political actors to focus on leadership vision and development agendas instead of fueling rumors.

He argued that suggestions that Arati is “spying” or working behind the scenes to shift alliances undermine constructive political engagement and risk dividing the community unnecessarily.

While neither Governor Arati nor Matiang’i has issued a detailed public response to the latest claims, Morara’s remarks appear aimed at reassuring supporters about the cohesion of their political camp.

As conversations around future presidential bids continue to gain momentum, the political direction taken by influential regional leaders such as Governor Arati is expected to remain under close observation.

Kisii politics, once again, finds itself at the center of Kenya’s evolving national political discourse.
