Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over remarks made following the tragic death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno.
Hon. Ngeno died on February 28, 2026, alongside five other people after a helicopter crashed and burst into flames in Nandi County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the pilot attempted an emergency landing due to bad weather before losing control of the aircraft. The incident shocked the nation and triggered widespread mourning across political divides.
During a public rally, Rigathi Gachagua reportedly called on President William Ruto to direct Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to step aside to allow investigations into the crash.
Gachagua argued that the circumstances surrounding the MP’s death should be thoroughly examined.
However, Kimani Ichung’wah accused the former Deputy President of politicizing a tragic loss. He claimed that Gachagua was using the incident to incite communities instead of allowing the nation and the bereaved family to mourn in peace.
Ichung’wah’s sentiments were echoed by UDA MP Oscar Sudi, who also urged political leaders to avoid turning the tragedy into a political contest.
Sudi called for respect and unity, emphasizing that the focus should remain on supporting the grieving family during this painful period.
As investigations into the helicopter crash continue, leaders across the political spectrum have been urged to exercise caution in their public statements.
Many Kenyans have continued to mourn Hon. Ngeno, remembering him as a vocal and dedicated legislator whose sudden death has left a significant gap in national leadership.
