The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised residents in Nairobi and neighboring counties to prepare for a period of moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days.
In an update issued on Saturday, March 21, the agency indicated that the region is currently experiencing the peak phase of the ongoing rainy season. The heaviest downpours are expected between March 20 and March 23, with conditions likely to ease by Tuesday, March 24.
Parts of the city have already recorded intense evening storms, leading to localized flooding in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions along major roads.
The Met Department warned that while the rains are beneficial for agriculture and water resources, they also pose risks such as flash floods, particularly in areas with poor drainage systems.
Residents in neighboring counties including Kiambu County, Machakos County, and Kajiado County have also been advised to expect similar weather conditions.
Motorists have been cautioned against driving through flooded roads, while those living in landslide-prone areas have been urged to take precautionary measures.
Families are also encouraged to keep emergency contacts ready and secure outdoor items that could be swept away by strong winds.
The department noted that it will continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates if conditions worsen.
