Heavy rainfall struck Nairobi late in the evening, triggering flash floods that disrupted movement across parts of the city and left several roads submerged.
The downpour overwhelmed drainage systems in multiple neighbourhoods, forcing motorists to navigate waterlogged streets while others were stranded as floodwaters rose rapidly.
Areas such as Kilimani, Kibera, South B, Kawangware, Lang'ata, Lavington and Lower Kabete were among the locations affected by the flooding. In several of these areas, water quickly filled streets and residential compounds, making movement unsafe for both pedestrians and motorists.
Kilimani was reported among the hardest-hit areas, with residents saying floodwaters damaged property and disrupted businesses. Estates along Likoni Lane experienced strong currents that carried mud, debris, and water into parking areas and homes.
Images and videos circulating online showed muddy streets and debris scattered across neighbourhoods. Vehicles parked along roads were also affected, with some cars reportedly pushed from their parking spots while others showed signs of damage from floating debris and rushing water.
The aftermath of the flooding has raised concern among residents, many of whom fear that continued rainfall could lead to further damage in the coming days. Calls for improved drainage systems in the city have also intensified.
Nairobi has experienced continuous rainfall in recent days, with recurring floods causing transport disruptions and property damage in several areas.
Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, avoid flooded roads, and refrain from driving or walking through fast-moving water to reduce the risk of accidents.
