Nyakenda, a young lady from Nairobi County, has shared a difficult experience she went through while working in the home of a top politician in Karen. Her story has left many shocked and serves as a warning to others looking for jobs in prominent households.
Nyakenda explained that someone had connected her to the politician, who was reportedly looking for a housemaid.
However, when she arrived at the house, the situation changed. The politician, who seemed welcoming at first, suddenly behaved differently.
She said she felt scared when the politician explained the kind of work he expected her to do.
Nyakenda was shocked when she realized the job was not what she had been told. She felt unsafe and uncomfortable with the instructions given to her.
When she refused the inappropriate task, the politician reportedly verbally abused her. He called her bad names, forcing Nyakenda to leave the house quickly to protect herself.
“I was very scared and had to run away to be safe,” she said.
Nyakenda warned other Kenyan girls to be careful when applying for jobs in the homes of prominent people, especially politicians. She said some people may appear kind at first but can have hidden intentions. She encouraged young women to trust their instincts and prioritize their safety over any job offer.
Her story is a reminder of the challenges domestic workers can face in private households. Nyakenda’s bravery in speaking out highlights the importance of safety, transparency, and awareness when working in homes of influential people.
