Fred Matiang’i Fires Back at President Ruto Over ‘Endeni Gym’ Comment

Jubilee Party presidential flagbearer Fred Matiang’i has hit back at President William Ruto following the Head of State’s ‘endeni gym’ remark aimed at United Opposition leaders.

Speaking at the launch of Jubilee Party offices in Narok, Matiang’i said Ruto had no reason to comment on his diet, noting that he never ate food prepared by First Lady Rachel Ruto or anyone in the President’s circle.

“All I eat are bananas from my Kisii home and ugali,” he remarked, adding that Ruto should instead mind his own health given his rapid weight loss.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary took the opportunity to highlight broader issues, accusing Ruto of unchecked appetite for land in Narok.

“Since you want us to talk about food, let us discuss who has eaten land. We all know the stomach that does not get satisfied in Kenya,” Matiang’i stated.

He urged the President to respect the Office of the President and maintain the dignity that comes with it, saying Ruto’s verbal attacks were beneath the office.

Matiang’i explained that he had exercised restraint in responding, out of respect for the Kenya Defence Forces and the President’s role as Commander-in-Chief.

Matiang’i suggested that Ruto’s recent outbursts signal panic over the possibility of losing the 2027 General Election.

“I know the President from our ten years together in Cabinet. When he insults others, it shows he is cornered and desperate,” he said.

Despite the harsh exchange, Matiang’i promised that if he succeeds Ruto in 2027, he would respect him as a former President.

“We are not bad people. Even when we replace you, we will respect you and your office,” he affirmed.

The verbal clash was sparked by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who joked that Ruto’s weight loss was due to being kept on his toes by the opposition.
