DP Kindiki Vows to End Banditry in Meru County

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has vowed to crush bandits terrorizing residents in Meru, announcing an intensive multi-agency security operation across the region.

Speaking on Saturday while inspecting development projects in South Imenti Constituency, Kindiki said the government will use both land and air operations to target bandits in Nyambene and the wider Meru North area.

He confirmed that specialized police units, supported by the Kenya Defence Forces, will spearhead the crackdown.

“These attacks against our people will end for good. When I was in charge of internal security we crushed bandits in Baringo, Kerio Valley, North Eastern, and Lamu. We will crush them in Nyambene. Take my word on this,” DP Kindiki said.

The Deputy President held a closed-door meeting with security and intelligence teams to set the government’s expectations for the operation, promising decisive action against criminals and urging residents to remain calm.

“What will be done there will end this menace and it will not happen again for decades to come,” he added.

Kindiki also highlighted ongoing development projects in Meru County under the William Ruto administration. These include road projects worth over KSh 39 billion, revamping of link roads with KSh 3.7 billion, and construction of Gakoromone Modern Market valued at KSh 1 billion.

An additional 17 modern markets are underway across the county, while 26,000 households are set to receive electricity connections under a KSh 2.3 billion program.

He reassured residents that critical infrastructure projects, including the Nithi Bridge and the Makutano-Mwea-Chuka-Nkubu-Meru-Maua highway expansion to a dual carriageway, will proceed as planned.

During the visit, Kindiki was accompanied by Kathuri Murungi, Elizabeth Kailemia, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, MPs from South Imenti, Igembe Central, Central Imenti, Igembe South, and other local leaders.

The DP urged residents not to be swayed by opposition leaders and to focus on the government’s development agenda while security operations continue.
