Court Grants Raphael Tuju KSh. 200,000 Anticipatory Bond Amid Alleged Threats

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has been granted an anticipatory bond of KSh. 200,000 by the High Court.

The move follows Tuju’s court application on Tuesday, in which he claimed he was under constant threat of arrest and harassment by police and prosecution agencies.

In an ex parte application, Tuju stated that he was followed by unmarked vehicles on March 21, forcing him to abandon his car and seek refuge at a secure location.

He later reported to Karen Police Station to record a statement but alleges he was manhandled by officers, aggravating injuries he had previously sustained in an airplane and motor vehicle accident.

In addition to seeking anticipatory bail, Tuju has requested the court to restrain the Inspector General of Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from summoning, arresting, or interfering with his freedom of movement.

He also asked for protection to receive medical treatment without intimidation or police presence.

Justice Martin Muya certified the matter as urgent, and the case is set to be mentioned again on April 7, 2026.

Tuju’s application comes amid ongoing public scrutiny over his recent disappearance and health concerns, highlighting the tense interface between law enforcement and high-profile public figures in Kenya.
