UDA Criticizes Opposition After Winning All Four By-Elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has slammed the United Opposition following its clean sweep of four by-elections held on February 26, 2026, describing rival leaders as “rudderless and clueless” after failing to secure any of the contested seats.

By-Election Results

In a statement on February 27, Hassan Omar Hassan said the victories reflected strong public confidence in UDA’s leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The polls, conducted in Isiolo, Embu, and Kakamega, covered one parliamentary seat and three ward positions:

Isiolo South Parliamentary Seat: UDA’s

Mohammed Tubi – 7,352 votes

Evurore Ward (Embu): Duncan Muratia – 7,853 votes

Muminji Ward (Embu): Peterson Njau – 3,207 votes

West Kabras Ward (Kakamega): Elphas Shalakha – 3,317 votes

The party emphasized that these results showed the opposition had failed to present a compelling alternative agenda and instead focused on criticism rather than policy proposals.

Political Implications

President William Ruto congratulated the winners and thanked voters for supporting UDA candidates. Political analysts note that while by-elections may not fully predict general election outcomes, they indicate party mobilisation strength and grassroots support.

Voter turnout in some areas was reportedly lower than in the 2022 General Election, reflecting typical by-election fatigue.

The opposition had yet to issue a comprehensive response at the time of reporting, but internal reflection and strategy adjustments are expected.

The February 26 by-elections have strengthened UDA’s momentum while presenting fresh challenges for opposition formations as Kenya moves toward the 2027 polls.
