Shock at KMTC Kaptumo as Nursing Student Dies in Tragic Incident

Grief and shock have engulfed Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kaptumo Campus following the tragic death of a 21-year-old nursing student.

The student, identified as Rita Chumba, was a second-year trainee pursuing a nursing course. Reports indicate that she died in an apparent suicide at her rented residence in Eldoret, just days before Valentine’s Day.

The heartbreaking news has left classmates, lecturers, and family members struggling to come to terms with the loss.

According to fellow students, Rita had recently experienced emotional distress following the end of a relationship.

Friends described her as unusually quiet and withdrawn in the days leading up to her death. While some noticed she seemed troubled, many say they did not anticipate such a devastating outcome.

Her passing sent shockwaves across the campus community, with students gathering to mourn and comfort one another. Many remembered her as friendly, hardworking, and determined, with aspirations of becoming a professional nurse.

Lecturers described Rita as a committed student who demonstrated dedication to both her academic work and clinical practice. They noted that she had strong potential and a promising future in the medical field.

The tragic incident has reignited conversations about the emotional and mental well-being of students facing personal challenges.

College administrators have called for calm and urged students to seek counseling and guidance whenever they feel overwhelmed.

Counseling services are reportedly being emphasized to help students cope with grief and to encourage open discussions about mental health.

If you or someone you know is struggling emotionally, reaching out to a trusted friend, counselor, or mental health professional can make a significant difference. Support is important, and no one has to face difficult moments alone.
