A Nakuru woman, Mercy Njeri, who traveled to Dubai seeking employment, is currently hospitalized after being violently assaulted by her boss’s wife over a minor mistake. The shocking incident has left many Kenyans in shock and calling for urgent action to protect workers abroad.
According to reports, Njeri was employed to take care of her boss’s 11-year-old child. On the evening of the incident, the child was found crying. When questioned, the child claimed that Njeri had not properly cared for her and forgot to give her food in the evening.
Njeri explained that she had given the child meals at 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM, and only missed feeding her at 5:00 PM. She said that her boss had previously reminded her not to forget feeding times, but she insisted that she had mostly followed instructions.
The situation escalated when the boss’s wife arrived home. Overcome with anger, she reportedly grabbed Njeri by the hair, dragged her into a room, and began physically assaulting her.
Shockingly, she then tied a wire around Njeri’s neck and secured her hands and legs to prevent her from defending herself before locking the room.
The ordeal lasted the entire night. Njeri was discovered unconscious the following morning. She was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors treated her for severe injuries caused by strangulation and physical abuse.
The story has sparked outrage across social media, with many Kenyans condemning the act and demanding that the government take urgent steps to protect Kenyan women working abroad.
Activists and concerned citizens are calling for stricter regulations and support systems to ensure that no Kenyan worker faces torture or abuse while seeking employment outside the country.
Mercy Njeri’s case is a stark reminder of the risks that some workers face abroad, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and stronger protection measures for vulnerable employees.
