Prominent Busia Businessman Allegedly Abducted While Travelling to Nairobi

A family in Busia County is living in fear after their brother, a well-known local businessman, allegedly disappeared under mysterious circumstances while travelling to Nairobi.

According to relatives, Ahmed left Busia town on the night of January 26, 2026, boarding a bus bound for the capital. Shortly into the journey, he stopped responding to calls and messages, prompting his family to launch an urgent search.

Eyewitnesses claim the bus was intercepted along the route by individuals claiming to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The witnesses say the men ordered Ahmed off the vehicle and took him in an unknown direction. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

The family says they have repeatedly sought help from local police stations but were met with silence or inaction. Ahmed’s brother expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of urgency from law enforcement agencies.

The disappearance has sparked outrage in the community, with residents staging demonstrations demanding swift action.

Protesters called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, and DCI leadership to intervene immediately, citing growing concerns over abductions in the region.

Adding to the urgency, reports indicate that Ahmed may have been carrying up to Ksh 17 million at the time of his disappearance, raising fears of foul play.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in locating Ahmed to come forward.

The family and community remain hopeful that law enforcement will act swiftly to bring Ahmed home safely.
